Why Do You Want To Write A Book?

book.jpgWhen most of us think about writing a book, we tend to think about telling the whole world something. The dream of a mass-market best seller is a persistent one. But, selling a ton of books isn’t the only valid reason for writing a book. Consider:

  • A family memoir aimed at passing on what you’ve experienced and learned. Your family and generations to come want this information.
  • A way to build credibility with clients. Your clients want to know more about you.
  • A novel that’s simply a darn good story. People love stories.
  • The secret you’ve discovered about living life. There is always an audience for self-help.
  • An insight about making money. There’s always an audience about making and managing money.
  • A unique approach to managing employees. Management books, properly marketed, sell well.
  • A children’s storybook – always an audience.
  • A book that solves at relationship problems. Many people want to improve their love life.

Etc., etc., etc.

Each of these is a totally valid reason for writing a book and getting it published one way or another. What other reasons might you think of?

This is a great question. There are many reasons I want to write a book (several books, in fact), but I think the biggest reason is that I want to leave something behind, a legacy of sorts.

I have so much more to say about this, I think I’m going to write a post on this topic! Thanks for getting my wheels turning!
