When we were in college, my roommate and I were trying to figure out our "theme songs." (Don’t ask me why — it was college.) I was at a total loss, but she had it all figured out. "That’s easy," she said. "Mine’s ‘Barracuda.’" And man, it totally fit her. I’m not sure the lyrics were exactly right, but the whole feel of the song was dead on. That rolling dun-duh-duh dun-duh-duh dun-duh-duh duh-duh-duh… Just so powerful, so rocking. That’s how I always think of her.
I met this awesome 20something chica at a freelance writer networking/support group last week and we connected right away. Over the last few days, we’ve been talking about how important it is to define your brand, and today, she sent me a great branding exercise:
Identify your theme song. In the movie/tv show of your life, what is the song that we hear in opening credits?
And again, I’m at a total loss. I mean, the easy answer is "Jessie’s Girl," since my husband’s name is Jesse, but that’s more about him than about me and, hey, this is about me. So I’m going to keep working on that.
In the meantime, what’s YOUR theme song?

I’m going to have to think about this. A song doesn’t come instantly to mind, or at least one did come to mind, but I can’t remember the title! This makes sense as far as branding though.

SO many songs come to mind!
AC/DC’s Back in Black – because I’m always reinventing myself.
Commodores’ Brickhouse – because who doesn’t want to be thought of as a brickhouse?
Grease’s Sandra Dee – though I do not want to be associated with the character from Grease, my name is Sandra.
Rancid’s Ruby Soho – cause it’s a great punk song with hints of ska and I love it.
Dropkick Murphys’ Tessie – it’s an anthem for baseball fans, but it’s about not giving up and having faith in the outcome – I can relate to that.

@Sandie – Ooo, “Ruby Soho,” good choice. It’s kind of a sad song, but I like the possibilities of “destination unknown.”

@Kristen Honestly, I picked it mostly because it’s upbeat, “punk,” and it makes me smile. I can’t understand half the lyrics – but I am now going to go look them up! :)

Just so we’re clear, it’s a theme song we’re after, not an anthem, right? Because I can think of any number of personal anthems, but theme songs? Oy!
Kristen, I’d say yours is Mustang Sally. :))
