Just a quick update on the race for the PA 5th. On April 17th (last Thursday), charges were filed against Candidate Derek Walker (the one who raised the most private contributions). Mr. Walker is accused of unlawfully entering the apartment of a former girlfriend and taping her in an intimate moment with another man.
Last week, Genaro C. Armas, Associated Press Writer, titled his article on the 5th district In Crowded Central Pa. House Race, Challenge is to Stand Out. It would appear that Mr. Walker has done that, but perhaps not in the best way.
The incident occurred in August, 2007, but the Clearfield County District Attorney, William Shaw, Jr., has stated that the case was delayed and he just received the last piece of evidence he required to press charges.
The opposition wasted no time in capitalizing on the news. Candidate, Matt Shaner, had radio ads on the air by Friday morning and TV ads by Saturday.
Walker, who vehemently denies the charges and insists that the charges are politically motivated, has been running ads attacking Shaner on several personal issues.
Interestingly, the young lady has issued a statement through Walker’s office, stating that she supports his campaign and that she too believes that the charges (and the timing) are political.
At the time, allegedly, Mr. Walker stated “this video is going to put an end to your job with the school district”.
I suspect it may put an end to his campaign as well.
