Technorati Research: What do Top Bloggers Make?

In my continuing look at this year’s research on the State of the Blogosphere 2008 by Technorati, I found some interesting statistics on High Revenue Bloggers.  Technorati defines High Revenue Bloggers as Bloggers who are in the top 10% of earnings for their blog.  As opposed to blogs that are in support of a business, these are usually blogs that are run as a business by the blogger.

Here is the profile of the typical High Revenue Blogger:

  • Makes $19,000 annually from the blog
  • Male
  • Self-employed
  • Professional
  • Corporate
  • Uses more tools on average
  • Sells through an ad network
  • Has affiliate ads
  • Posts 81 times per month
  • Spends more than 10 hours per week blogging
  • Invests $7400 per year in the blog

If your blog is your business, how well does the above list describe you?  And if it doesn’t describe you, what should you change about the way you blog?

For example, the high revenue bloggers tend to post 81 times per month versus the other 90% of bloggers who post an average of 37 times per month.  As Laura pointed out, some pro-bloggers post as much as ten times per day.  High Revenue Bloggers also spend more time on their blogs and have more ads than average bloggers.

And while the above profile is the statistical average don’t overlook that the very top 1% of bloggers earn more than $200,000 annually for their blog!

So – to make more money from your professional blog - are you willing to invest more time, money and energy?
