MyBlogLog as a Traffic Multiplier

I’m no doubt not the only person whose first impressions of the online service MyBlogLog have been based on the Recent Readers widget appearing on various blogs. Which led me to believe it was basically another community-building, social networking, link-swapping kind of thing. Well, it does seem that is right, but there is more to the story. And in fact, as its name suggests, MyBlogLog started out as a link tracker.

But although it still provides the link tracking stats, what I’ve picked up around the blogosphere is that MyBlogLog is seen by some (many?) as a smart way to increase traffic. Kevin Lim certainly thought so last year and wrote an introduction to MyBlogLog which I have frankly found more helpful than the Help page on the service’s site. See Building Your Blog’s Community Using MyBlogLog.

More recently, MyBlogLog has beenĀ acquired by Yahoo!, and there are promises of improved services being rolled out.

We don’t have MyBlogLog installed on the b5media blogs, but I have installed it on my Thinking Home Business blog and in fact am currently testing the Pro service to get more extensive stats than the free version provides: at $3 a month it’s not a big stretch – although as with all these “only x dollars a month” commitments, I put a reminder in my diary for a month hence so it doesn’t renew automatically without my intending it to do so.

My id on MyBlogLog is Beachblogger.

    Des,

Was following the Beachcomber blog, didn’t realize that you wrote here as well.

You’d probably mentioned it in the posts there, my lack of attention :-)
