Moving to Toronto and joining b5media full time

Now that I have all the stuff signed and such, I can let out one of my most poorly kept secrets of late—I’m moving to Toronto next month.  In addition to moving to Toronto, I’ll also be moving to full-time status at b5media as the Training Manager (believe it or not, this has only been a part time job, in theory).

Most of you know that I’ve been in BC for about 8.5 years now and mark ten years in Canada this month, and that I didn’t think I’d ever move back East.  I love BC.  Victoria is a great city, just the right size for me I think, but things change.

If you’re thinking, gee this came up fast—you have no idea.  This has been pretty much a done deal since early May, but we wanted to keep it close until the important details were worked out.  And the decision to actually move was made in the span of less than a week.

Why move and why now?  Pretty simple actually, my ex-wife is moving with my kids to Southern Ontario so, I’m moving closer to them.

The job stuff is secondary to me really.

Am I excited?  Totally.

Scared? Oh yeah.

Ready to move?  Not even close.

Stressful? Yeah I wrote about that on my personal blog.

So Toronto geeky friends, here I come.

Thanks everyone! I am going to miss Victoria and BC, but Toronto should be a fun time too.

Welcome to the big smoke. After 6 months out west I can tell you one thing you will be please to see out here. That is the housing prices are much lower out here. Look forward to meeting you again and let me know if you need a tour guide.

Woohoo! Official b5 paparazzi will now be local! :-) Glad to have you here, Tris.

Closer to me. I can just take a boat over Lake Erie from Cleveland and be there in like 4 hours. :)

Congrats on the full-time gig. See you in Boston!

Sorry to hear about the stress factor, but at the same time congratulations on the full time status and getting to be close to your kids. Sounds like a win-win once you actually get packed and ready.

As a Montrealer, I must say the East end of Canada rocks (mostly).

Oooh, bummer! I mean, “congrats!” I mean, “oh no, you can’t leave!” I mean, “hey, that’s awesome…” No, I mean, “bummer, bummer, bummer!”

Tris, you’re causing me stress, man! :-) I’m conflicted!

But seriously, glad to hear that your ‘heart scare’ ended with a clean bill of health, take it easy, and all the best on the move to Toronto. (You’ll notice that the local weather is collaborating to make leaving easy!) And moving to continue being close to your family is important — for that heart health, too!

Nothing like a 4,614 km move to start your summer. Congratulations! I guess I never thought about you being “part-time” up to this point.

I never did get to visit in Victoria. Now I have to find another friend there! Darn.

You’ll be missed in Victoria, Tris. But staying close to your kids is the right thing to do – no matter where it takes you. Hope you’ll come back to visit.
