In each of the last three months, unemployment dropped in at least 30 states. In the latest numbers, only 18 states saw unemployment drop. In other words, the economy’s momentum has started to sputter. In fact, unemployment numbers grew in 14 states.
Looking at the United States as a whole, unemployment remained steady at 9.5%. For the first time in four years, Michigan actually didn’t have the nation’s highest unemployment rate. That “honor” instead went to Nevada, which has a 14.3% unemployment rate compared to Michigan’s 13.1%. California rounds out the bottom three with a rate of 12.3%.
Are you looking for a job? North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska are hiring. Each of those three states have unemployment rates lower than 4.8%.
Economists are split about what’s ahead. Some believe that there is job growth and that the U.S. is headed in the right direction. Others, however, believe the next few months could present even harder times.
