As you might expect, I get lots of questions about how to apply for a freelance writing job. Yesterday I put together a whole page on the topic.
It’s listed over there on the right, the first entry under “Pages” and titled How To Apply For A Freelance Writing Job.
Now, tell me what I left out or what should be added and I will.

I have written over 100 song lyrics and I have melodies for each of them including a way to sing them, but I do not know how to write actual music, but I want to learn. However, i’m an excellent lyricist and I have an amazing voice!
No, you didn’t miss it John… I actually had it in mind when I first thought of writing a page and lost it in the writing… I’ll add it… and thanks — I think I’ll add these with links to whomever.
Maybe I missed it in your piece, but I think it’s worth mentioning that when you apply for a freelance writing job your application letter and any correspondence should be your best writing.
I’ve been an editor and a freelancer off and on for about 30 years and the one thing I’ve noticed more than anything else is that correspondence has become generally more sloppy. If I’m hiring somebody for a writing job and the pitch letter comes with poor punctuation, bogus grammar, and obvious misspellings there’s a pretty good chance I’m not going to be interested in hiring said applicant.
every note? well good for me, thanks for the link! Learned a fair amount of it from you ;)
Anne, you hit every note. I linked to you today. :))
