Google’s Newest M&A Target has Canadian Roots

According to the Wall St. Journal, Google could be moving into the fast-emerging video game advertising business by acquiring Adscape Media Inc.. While Adscape has its headquarters in Mountain View, Ca., it was started five years ago in Ottawa and the company’s R&D and design operations remain therel. To date, Adscape has raised $3.2-million in venture capital (H.I.G. Ventures is among its investors but it appears there are no Canadian VCs involved). While the WSJ didn’t provide a potential acquisition price for Adscape, Microsoft moved into the video game ad business last year when it purchased Massive Inc. for about $200-million.     Maple Leaf 2.0 - Google Deal for AdScape Scrapped

    [...] About a month ago, it appeared that Google was on the verge of buying AdScape Media, which started in Ottawa before moving its corporate HQ to Silicon Valley (Most of the R&D is sitll done in Ottawa, though). Anyway, PaidContent reports that discussions may have fallen apart with Google now exploring other options ot get into the in-video game advertising market. PaidContent said the purchase pricing being thrown around was $20-million to $30-million. See this earlier post for more details on AdScape.
