Free Press Release Sites – Worth It?

I started doing some research into free press release distribution sites. I’ve looked in the past, but it’s been a while since I updated my bookmarks. I like to keep a few on file to have for occasional submissions. I know people who submit multiple press releases to a variety of sites. But I honestly wonder if it’s worth the time they put into it. You’ll be more successful in submitting releases if you choose a few sites and just make sure your release is done well, interesting, and has something to offer your audience.

colored paperI even prepared to do a list for you of the free press release sites. And you know what? There are a lot of them. And a lot of lists. One search is all it takes to find a very long list. Instead, I’m going to refer you to the best list I found. The links are good, the list is thorough, and you’ll even get a bit of advice with it. So here it is:

Big List of Free Press Release Distribution Sites

Like Jennifer, I don’t recommend that you submit your releases to every single site on the list. Or even ten. Or five. Choose two or three good ones. Experiment a little and see which ones work best for you.

Should you spend your time on these sites? Maybe. I’m not 100% convinced it’s worth it. You could spend your time putting a release up on your own site for free, sending it to local news outlets, even sending it to your industry’s magazines or sites. You’ll probably get just as much return from them.

Now here’s where I’d like to hear from you. What are your experiences with free press release distribution sites? Is it worth your time? I mean really worth your time. If you spent money to get a professionally written release (and you should!), did you then waste that money with free distribution? Was it worth it? If it was, in what ways do you think it benefitted you?

I am just testing this myself, have submitted a release to 4 or 5 free PR sites, and will monitor the results and post. Thansk for your post.
