Do startups take vacations?

As a long weekend with a US holiday approaches, I was wondering:

How many startup and small business owners take a REAL vacation?

One of my good friends, who owns an Internet marketing firm, is on ‘vacation.’  She’s still answering emails, sending out proposals, chasing down some contracts… etc.

Is that a vacation? Or is it just a nicer place to work?

Vacations can be a much deserved time away from the office. You need it to refresh, re-energize and sometimes just to take a time-out. If you’re worried your business can crumble during a week off, it’s time to re-examine your business operations.

So how about you? Are you taking a real vacation, or just doing a temporary business relocation?

I take a two day weekend off completely from my business every two weeks. No cellphone, no nothing.

Working from home, I don’t take any day off.

I think you’re right, Mike. Even for me… my husband often jokes I am more intimate with my iPhone than him!

For me it’s not just business owners but everyone that can’t seem to get away from their busy schedules. Life has definitely sped up over the past couple of years with mobile phones and easy internet access allowing everyone to be connected all of the time. Just try and remove a mobile phone from someone for a week and you’ll see how hard it is for them to cope.
