There’s a new Rambo film out this month and to promote it Spinnaker have developed a Facebook app. This is a like Role Playing Game, where you choose your attack and then launch it against your chosen opponent – one of your friends who also has the app installed. Gain points and strength and try and become Rambo, the ultimate warrior.
It’s a good use of the network, utilising the social applications and allowing the game to build over time, instead of a quick hit of a flash game. But that is also a weakness, as you need to install the app and your friends need to be the type that don;t object to being ‘spammed’ if you want them to play. As with all apps I’ve seen you don’t know what it does before you install, but you can get a hint from the Fan page. From the reviews on that page, the film seems to fun, if bloodthirsty. If Rambo is your thing (it’s not really mine) then this is a good game for you to play as well.

I’ve only ever seen 1 app that makes you invite your friends, everything else was open to skipping the invite step. But then again, I’ve not really got that many apps so there could be a lot out there.
Having to have friends with the same taste in films and games is a strength and weakness.
This is a great application purely because it doesnt automatically make you invite your whole friend list – instead it encourages you to recruit friends by rewarding you with strength points. Job well done in my eyes..
