5 Entries In The Business Book Contest

Maybe this contest has legs after all…

I think the problem is that I don’t have a cool name for it. From now on I’m going to call it the “Entrepreneurial Pay It Forward Book Contest” (I just made that up this minute) to spice things up a bit.

It’s a simple contest – find a blog post on entrepreneurship that you like (on someone else’s blog), write about it on your own and link back to my original contest post to let me know.

The winner will be selected randomly, and will receive a copy of The Entrepreneurial Imperative by Carl J. Schramm, President of the Kauffman Foundation.

The author that inspired the winner (i.e. the person the winner linked to in his/her own blog post) will also win! So winners are “paying it forward” by winning a prize for someone else. They’ll receive a copy of Chocolates on the Pillow Aren’t Enough by Jonathan M. Tisch.

Here’s the first batch that I received:

• GP presents The Circle of Life – part tribute to the classic animated film The Lion King and part inspirational thoughts on turning fear into faith. GP was inspired by Alan’s post on Made to Be Great titled Facing Fear.
• Hernan Cortes presents Creating a Board of Advisors where he’s providing some cold hard truths about what it’s like to setup and manage a board of advisors. It’s not a cakewalk. Hernan was inspired by Chase Norlin of VentureBeat – Why Assemble An Advisory Board? (Note: Hernan’s post requires you to sign-up to read.)
• Ponn Sabra presents Women Entrepreneurs As Employees And Business Owners. Based on a recent report out of Babson College, reported on by Kirsten of re:invention blog, women should not quit their day job when they start a business. Ponn lists 5 reasons why that’s the case which I find quite interesting.
• Landon presents Lessons from an Entrepreneur, Snarky or Not! which is inspired by Steve Pavlina’s post 10 Business Lessons from a Snarky Entrepreneur. I laughed out loud when I read the last point in Landon’s post, “Do what you love, but be damned sure it’s profitable.”
• Jeff Hunsaker presents Forbes: Head To Head: U.S. Congress’ Small Biz Agenda which is his commentary on two recent interviews Forbes did with congressmen regarding small business issues. Their responses didn’t resonate with Jeff, so he’s proposing 3 initiatives he’d push for if he were in Congress.
