4 Big Personal Finance Stories

All sorts of things happened this year in the world of personal finance. Probably the biggest story was the subprime crash. Indeed, the four stories that I found to be the biggest of the year are all related to the after math of the subprime crash — and the attempts made to fix the economy. Here they are:

  1. The Fed has gotten involved in the economy with its cash liquidity plan.
  2. The Bush Administration offered a mortgage fix that doesn’t actually really fix anything.
  3. The financial sector is having serious troubles, including underdisclosed debt obligations.
  4. A predatory lending bill was passed — but we have yet to see whether it will really make changes.

And, though it didn’t have anything to do with the subprime crash, the Golden Compass received all sorts of press, reminding us that even in these times of economic turmoil, we can still choose where we spend our money.
