The Hoodie Awards were set up in 2001 to honor the nation’s best small businesses, educators and community leaders in several categories for the contributions they make to their communities.
The Hoodie Award Categories include best high school, car wash, soul food place, nail shop, barbershop, fried chicken, high school teacher, barbecue place, beauty salon, church, church choir and community leader.
I love the categories, barbershop, fried chicken? The Hoodie awards genuinely represent small business, and communities on a neighborhood level.
The 7th Annual Hoodie Awards will be held in Las Vegas on August 15th, and hosted by Steve Harvey.
The Best Soul Food Place caught my attention, probably because I’m a foodie. The finalists for the Best Soul Food Award are Delta’s in New Brunswick New Jersey, Mama Nems’ in Orlando Florida, Charlotte North Carolina’s Sadie’s Soulful Southern Experience and Bite Your Tongue Cajun Restaurant also from Charlotte. I bet that’s some good Southern soul food!

Each of the categories has a sponsor, and this year the Soul Food Category is sponsored by Hillshire Farms. I just think it’s cool that outstanding small businesses, and other members of small communities can be recognized on a national level. It’ll be interesting to learn more about the winning businesses, and how they stand out from the crowd.
