Evaluating the MS CTP program

Redmondmag.com has an article about testing Windows Vista and the way Microsoft could be doing more to improve it.

Some time this month, if Microsoft sticks to schedule, the company will deliver its latest test build of Windows Vista to hundreds of thousands of testers. Seems like a perfect time to contemplate how well Microsoft’s Vista beta/Community Technology Preview (CTP) program is going.

The Microsoft Connect servers seemed to have a hard time and were completely overwhelmed by testers who attempted to download the February Vista test build. Next to that there were problems with incompatible versions of Vista and Office, and we all know the various disappearing and reappearing features… Is the Vista CTP program still worth these growing pains?

I have a major problem with the MSDN program…. 2 grand a year for the max version and we don’t get the same builds until days later – if ever (as in the case of 5342). We’re paying out the nose for betas and other production programs… and whomever is running it takes their sweet time loading files there.
