When Argentina is playing international basketball, it’s usually Manu Ginobili playing the starring role. With Ginobili sitting out this year’s World Championships, the mantle has been passed to Luis Scola — and he hasn’t disappointed. In fact, he’s been the World’s best player. Against Brazil, Scola was simply awesome.

In a contest featuring the two South American powerhouses, Scola poured in 37 points on 14-for-20 shooting from the field. He also pulled down nine rebounds, dished out three assists and swiped two steals — all while going up against NBA caliber bigmen such as Anderson Varejao and Tiago Splitter. Down the stretch, Scola hit shot after shot to keep Brazil from gaining any moment.

“Scola goes into video game god mode to finish off Brazil,” tweeted Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.

“Wow.”

Wow, indeed. If you can watch a replay of this game, do so.

“It was an amazing basketball game,” Scola said. “I wish I was neither Argentinian nor Brazilian so I could have watched the game and enjoyed it from that perspective.”

The game was great.

Scola was better.

Here’s a Luis Scola video of his domination of Brazil:

Big Ben Roethlisberger had his suspension lowered from six games to four games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. However, that doesn’t mean that all is forgiven. Roethlisberger, who has been accused of rape twice now, is feeling heat from his Pittsburgh Steelers coaches and teammates. It’s either tough love … or they’ve grown tired of his shady ways.

First, Big Ben’s teammates striped him of being a captain. Instead, the offensive captains are wide receiver Hines Ward and tight end Heath Miller. For a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback to not be a captain is unheard of.

Next, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wouldn’t say whether or not Roethlisberger will regain his starting quarterback job once his suspension is lifted. Considering that no-name Dennis Dixon will be the signal caller to begin the season, that is also quite surprising.

In the best case scenario, these slights will help Big Ben grow up, act like an adult and realize that no means no. Let us hope.

The song and dance finally ended on Sunday night when Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets agreed to a new contract. To end the seven-month holdout, Revis inked a deal worth $46 million over four seasons. The superstar cornerback will be paid $7.5 million this season and has a total of $32 million in guaranteed money coming his way.

By getting Revis back into the fold, the Jets increase their Super Bowl chances tremendously. Without him, they were a good defensive team. With him, they are a great defensive team.

If the Jets can dominate on defense and once again be a strong running team, that will give the squad a good chance of going all the way. Their weakness? Second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez. While he showed flashes last season, he’s a below average starting quarterback. And even though New York has surrounded him with a strong receiving core, the passing game is enough of a question mark to stop the Jets from being a Super Bowl favorite.

After getting cut from the Seattle Seahawks, T.J. Houshmandzadeh had a lot of suitors. When all was said and done, Houshmandzadeh decided to sign with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens add to their growing wide receiving talent, while Houshmandzadeh goes to a team with a legit shot to win a Super Bowl championship.

Houshmandzadeh says Ray Lewis should be credited for wooing him to Baltimore.

“Ray said, ‘If you want to win, this is the place to be.’ The way he is on the field is how he is off the field: Passionate. Our conversation was passionate and insightful,” Houshmandzadeh told USA Today.

To go along with Houshmandzadeh, the Ravens have Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth at wide receiver. In past season, the Ravens have had depth problems at receiver — that won’t be the case this year.

Houshmandzadeh became a star with the Cincinnati Bengals while playing next to Chad Johnson. He left for the Seahawks in free agency last offseason, however that move ended up being a bust for Seattle. The 32-year-old Houshmandzadeh will look to revive his career with the Ravens while attempting to bring a Super Bowl trophy to town.

We see headers all the time in soccer. A header in hockey? Not so much. But scroll down to see a video of a hockey player using a header to score a goal. And yes, the hockey player header seems to be on purpose.

During the video, the player (apparently named Silvio) is focused on the whole time. After a bunch of ugly hockey, Silvio gets the puck at around the 30 second mark — and quickly proceeds to lose possession. Luckily for him, a teammate ends up with the puck. When the teammate aims a shot at goal that gets blocked, the puck flutters to Silvio. Thinking with his head (bad pun intended), the hockey player heads the puck into the goal.

In this league, which looks to be somewhere in Europe, the goal was allowed. In the NHL, that goal would have been waved off. But since it counted, we’ll give this header hockey player some love.

Here’s the hockey player header video:

Sonya Thomas – “The Black Widow” of eating contests – devoured 181 chicken wings in 12 minutes to set the national championship record on Sunday at the 9th Annual National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, New York. It was the fourth year in the row that Thomas has won the contest.

The 43-year-old stands just 5-feet tall and weighs 105 pounds. She ate 4.86 pounds of chicken, compared to second-place finisher Joey Chestnut’s 4.55 pounds (169 wings). Chestnut, known as “Jaws”, has won the last four Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating competitions at Coney Island and is also known for his ability to eat pizza.

“I’m savoring this victory, because finishing ahead of Joey in any food may never happen again,” Thomas said. “Before today it had been well over two years since I earned a victory over him.”

It seems maybe Thomas is better at the wing-eating sprint while Chestnut is better at the marathon. Chestnut set the 30-minute record back in 2008 with 241 wings.

A day after the video of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s racist rant made headlines around the world, Manny Pacquiao has responded. Instead of blasting back with stereotypes including chicken and watermelon, Pacquiao decided to take the high road.

Said Pacquiao: “I just heard about that, but I didn’t see the video. But it’s an uneducated message.”

In Mayweather’s racist rant, he talked about Pacquiao eating dogs, cooking sushi, speaking bad English and being short.

“They ain’t gotta worry about me fighting the midget,” said Mayweather during his rant. “Once I kick the midget ass, I don’t want you all to jump on my dick. So you all better get on the bandwagon now.”

So far, there hasn’t been any official word from Mayweather after his racist rant.

Pacquiao says that he isn’t even thinking about boxing Mayweather.

“I’m not looking for that fight,” said Pacquiao. “I’m satisfied with what I’ve done in boxing already.”

I don’t buy it. Eventually, we’ll see Mayweather versus Pacquiao. Hopefully it happens in the next year.

“Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that motherfucker make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice,” spewed Mayweather.

Actually, it’s Mayweather who finds himself in hot water — not Pacquiao’s rice.
