2G, 3G, 4G, what does it all mean? Not much, really. G stands for generation. So, then, 4G would be the 4th generation of cell phone wireless standards. But, if it doesn’t really mean anything, then why are all the carriers racing like it’s the Olympics to get to the hot new 4G phone first?
Because what 4G really means is faster. It means ultra-broadband access to the internet . It means phones that are more like computers, with a much higher degree of connectivity. And it’s in the works. Verizon has stated that they plan to simultaneously release phones with 4G and LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology this year. That means phones that will work as fast as possible now, and when 4G is for real.
