I spent a lot of time trolling about Linux websites. Most of the sites I visit are of the forum-type and I’m generally either looking for questions or looking for answers. This is just one of the tactics I use to come up with topics for this site.
Over the past few months, I think I’ve managed to get a pretty good grip on what sites are out there and how I feel about them. Therefore, inspired by Srinivasan’s One-Day-One-Command (ODOC) series, I’m going to do an open-ended series called One-Day-One-Site (ODOS). I’m going to put each entry into the Free World category, but I’ll put ODOS in the title of each post so that you can easily search for all of the entries in the series (by searching for ‘ODOS’, right?)
Each day I’m going to visit a Linux-related help/forum site, do a little review on it, and post an entry here. I hope to introduce you guys to some good quality help sites that you may not have been aware of before. In case the opposite is true, however, please feel free to leave a comment here with a site that you know of that you’d like me to take a look at.
I thought I’d start off the series with a reasonably well-known site that’s actually not really indicative of the sites I’m intending to review. Get the oddballs out of the way first, I always say. OK, I never say that…but I’ll start.
Today’s ODOS site is Tux Magazine. The reason that Tux doesn’t really fall into the typical site that I’m going to look at is its format. Tux is a real live magazine distributed in PDF format. There’s no forums or wikis or helpful FAQs on the Tux site (at least not relating to GNU/Linux), but it’s the place to sign up for your free subscription to Tux Magazine. I should point out that there are some articles available (both included and not included in the magazine itself) on the main page of the Tux website.
Once you subscribe, you’ll have access to all of the archived magazines to download. You’ll also receive a monthly email when the newest edition of Tux is ready so you can go and download it.
The magazine itself is of very high quality. It’s been my experience that ‘eMagazine’ really means ‘elCheapoQuality’, but Tux’s professional layout and quality content puts that old thought to bed. I’ve read every edition of Tux since inception and the HOWTOs, reviews, and Q&A’s have been helpful to me time and again.
I highly recommend checking it out!

Glad you like the idea. I’ve found that there are al lot of great resources out there beyond the standard locak LUG and LinuxQuestions.org.
I really like Tux as well…it’s a good mag.
I like this idea very much, as it will add to my linux resources. I’m signed up for Tux and look forward to more posts like these.
