There are so many iPhone apps to choose from and it can be really tough to know which ones are good and which ones are just a waste of time. Recently, PC Magazine listed their 40 favorite free apps and I think they’ve compiled a great list. I have chosen a few that I think are great.
AP Mobile 3.1 is excellent because you can stay up-to-date with breaking news, photos and videos from the Associated Press. You can personalize it so that you only get the content that you want and you can enable push notifications so that you can know about the latest news as it happens. ![]()
I have never bought anything from eBay but my husband likes to bid on gold and silver coins but one thing that makes it tough is that, if you leave the house, you can get outbid while you’re away from your computer. The eBay Mobile 1.4.1 app allows you to keep track of auction and power sellers and frequent bidders will find this tool invaluable.
Are you a foodie? I am so the Epicurious 1.1.0 app is awesome because you can look up your favorite recipes while you’re at the grocery store picking up essentials. After making a shopping list, you will be able to check things off as you pick them up.
The next one is a no-brainer. So many people keep in touch through Facebook so it’s no surprise that the Facebook 3.03 app made the list. You can communicate with friends and family, check out new pictures, get information about events and groups and look up phone numbers.
Have you ever been out and about somewhere and decided that, instead of going home, you’d rather take in a movie? Almost everyone has done that but it can be really frustrating to try to figure out what movies are playing at which theaters. The Fandango 2.0 allows you to find movie times, check out trailers, read reviews and purchase tickets.
I don’t know what I would do without Skype. I don’t actually use it as a telephone but I do use the instant messaging. I’ve taught my grandmother how to use it so having the Skype 1.2.2 app installed. The PC Magazine article points out that Skype can be used over Wi-Fi or 3G which translates into saving a lot of minutes if you use Skype to make your calls.
I just wrote an article about how popular the Tap Tap Revenge game is. It’s like Guitar Hero and Rock Band in the sense that it’s a rhythmic music game. It’s a great way to waste valuable time.
