State of Limbo: Siemens SX1

eww?Remember this product? Aeons ago, I did a long, comprehensive review of the Siemens SX1. I still remember the day this phone was launched – we were all brought to this restaurant where some chef gave us a cooking lesson and then tried to connect food with phones because you hold them both to your mouth. Eh?

So where art thou today, SX1? The answer: rotting in shelves. I checked out the mall yesterday and found a display of phones lined up – you got the sexy Sony Ericssons, the twist-ed Nokia clams, a few LG and Samsungs .. but in one dark corner I found the Siemens SX1 still proudly displaying itself – with the same price tag it had since 2004. It was still pegged at an unbelievable US $399.00.

This is an example of what happens when you think your phone is so great, that in spite of its low sales, you won’t admit that it really sucks. In that cooking class / press launch, someone blurted out “Hey, what are you doing with your phones? It’s alreay so hard to use!!” Everyone started to shift in their chairs. Calmly, the Siemens rep said “Well, we’re providing a challenge to users to find new ways of sending SMS and calls.”

You see, “there are just some things man was never meant to tamper with.” Like a numerical keypad.
