Sprint’s Palm Pre Conspiracy

With a show of hands, who likes mail-in rebates? Of course I can’t see it, but I imagine quite a few of you are raising your hands high in the air. Mail-in rebates are a royal pain in the rump. The fact is that the companies that offer them count on you not mailing them in.

The Sprint Palm Pre

The Sprint Palm Pre

I bought an HP Notebook last summer that had a $50 mail-in rebate. I mailed it in the first time and it was sent back saying that one of the numbers was illegible. So I rewrote it, printing very carefully and even took a picture of the serial number so Joe Idiot over at HP would have no excuse to send it back. Seven months later and I still had not received the rebate check. I called them and the guy at the other end was actually very helpful and a week or so later I finally had the check in hand.

According to Gizmodo , the advertised price of the new Palm Pre by Sprint of $199 is after a $100 mail in rebate. They say you can avoid having to get the mail-in rebate by simply purchasing the new mobile phone at Best Buy and Radio Shack where the $100 rebate will be instant at the register. They also say that Best Buy is in the practice of making mail-in rebates instant at the store. That’s something nice that I didn’t know because I’m often turned off from a sale because of a mail-in rebate.

The Palm Pre does look like a cool little phone with all sorts of goodies. It’s getting some really great reviews so far. The biggest problem that a lot of people have is that it’s on the Sprint network. The Palm Pre gets an official release on June 6th.

Holy crap, you’re right about the errors. I’ll have to fix that. Normally I do proof-read but I was tired, in a hurry and on the phone as I hit publish. I work long days besides writing this.

On another note, I have not heard a lot of good things from people that were stuck in a contract with Sprint. Of course anyone that has Sprint and has been satisfied is going to say that it’s the best. I personally think that Alltel has the best coverage (In NC anyway), but they have major issues with customer call service. At least they did when I was with them. I have pre-paid because I don’t use a cell very often and a conventional mobile contract and bill would be very impractical…at the present moment. My phone runs off of the Sprint network and my coverage is very limited.

Mail in rebates work great when they are applied but some companies take their time to send the check.

    1) Sprint’s is the best network in most of the US.

    2) Proofread your blog. I should talk… but it’s riddled with errors like the Wild West.

    3) Rebates work fine for me… and my lady, and friends… and… well.. seems to work if you have the presence of mind to actually send it in.

    4) I cannot believe I just randomly commented on a random blog, randomly.

I don’t know where you live, but I’ve been with Verizon, AT&T, Alltel and finally with Sprint/Nextel, man! My service is way better, more coverage and the few times I had to call cust. serv. was a very good experience, and the 3G network is way faster than those from AT&T and Verizon, my friends with those 2 companies are waiting on the Pre since their contract is up so they will jump ship to Sprint. Like I said, that’s where I live, and also in places in MN, TX, GA, VA and the two Carolinas, I know because I have a lot of family and friends in those States. Just my 2 cents.
