It was about 2 a.m. when I got an email from someone telling me about TextFlow, a parallel word processing app based on the Adobe AIR platform. TextFlow allows people to collaborate on documents independently wether online or offline.
Since the app is based on the AIR platform it runs on operating systems supported by AIR. Windows and Mac OS 10.4 above is supported. So as long as you have any of these then you can download and use the app.
If you want to give it a try, signup for a beta account. You can learn a bit more via the TextFlow blog or the 1 minute video demo.
I’m attaching the press announcement below.
Nordic River Announces Open Beta Availability of TextFlow Software
New parallel word processing solution for text collaboration enables
seamless handling of documents(Umea, Sweden – November 24, 2008) – Nordic River, a leading innovator in productivity and collaborative tools, announces the open beta availability of TextFlow. TextFlow is a new kind of online/offline word processing collaboration software that allows concurrent editing from multiple writers on the same text document, enabling users efficient and enhanced collaborative intelligence for any enterprise. Based on the patent-pending WeaveSync technology – an indexing, matching and synchronization tool for documents – TextFlow enables seamless merging and tracking of suggestions from multiple writers at once. Using TextFlow, corporations, organizations and individuals will transi tion from a sequential and individual work pattern to a parallel and collaborative one.
“Today, there are two ways to collaborate on text documents – texts are either sent back-and-forth as email attachments with endless revisions and versions, or are stored on portals. Both of these options are very time-consuming, prone to mistakes and more importantly, limiting, because they require the users to be online, work one at a time and generally adopt a sequential work pattern,” said Tomer Shalit, CEO, Nordic River. “With TextFlow, you now have the ability to make joint revision a natural part of text management through concurrent editing. TextFlow’s drag-and-drop interface allows you to simply drop your documents directly into TextFlow’s user interface and in real-time compare, accept or decline suggested revisions. Questions of ‘who has the latest version,’ or, ‘who has made which changes’ are obsolete – it’s all there in one place. This means major gains in productivity and quality for companies, organizations and individuals.”
TextFlow is designed to address all writing processes, private and professional alike. TextFlow enables timeless and version-less handling of documents, allowing writers to work completely independent of one another, either online or offline, in a system of their choice, and when they want to contribute. TextFlow´s well-researched user interface also gives an overview of all texts and makes it easy to combine different authors’ revisions as they are completed. What is more, Textflow makes it possible for more than one person to work on the same document at the same time without making joint revision a complicated and time-consuming process.
TextFlow´s beta is now available for free download. Pricing will be announced at general product availability. For more information about TextFlow, visit www.textflow.com.
