Michael Dell on Vista’s hardware needs

Recent reports from Windows Vista beta testers on the hardware requirements of the operating system have been confirmed by Michael Dell. In a press conference, he outlined the OS requirements as at least 256 Mbyte of graphics DDR, as well as high-capacity SATA hard drives, “more” system RAM for “wider pathways” and a high-resolution display. Tom’s Hardware states :

Mr. Dell told reporters that any computer that should be so described, requires at least 256 Mbyte of GDDR, as well as high-capacity SATA hard drives, “more” system RAM for “wider pathways” and a high-resolution display. Microsoft has yet to publicly announce its minimum specifications for systems to qualify for a Vista logo, though it’s widely believed that Microsoft has released preliminary specifications to supporting companies, including Dell.

Another report that Aero Glass has been running on a Tablet PC with a 32MB graphics card have been downplayed by the writer of the piece, James Kendrick, who replied to a commenter : “the Glass looks nice but it makes it almost impossible to use the TIP, the pointer doesn’t work well as a mouse as you point out, and it killed anything that uses Direct3D including IE 7.”

A little warning the Glass registry adjustment just repeatedly gives errors about “user experience subsystems failed and need to be shut down”. It is on an Intel 82845G Graphics Controller-Ver14.10.3 -Date jun-28-2005 – not sure about on card memory sorry.
It does allow me to continue working as normal after a few errors. I also think the firewall/virus message fades out slowly which didnt happen before.
