So what do you look forward to this coming year?
Are you counting on Linux and cloud computing? Have your Linux distro and files and setup on your laptop and have it sync somewhere in the cloud? There are some projects that point to that possibility like JolliCloudOS. It’s still by invite only so you can’t really try it out until you receive an invite code.
Definitely Linux on the mobile. Android seems to be paving the way for a more mainstream adoption of Linux on mobile devices. I know that Motorola and Sharp used to have mobile devices that have Linux but they didn’t become as popular as how Android phones are pretty popular now. Aside from the iPhone, Android phones seem to be the most coveted gadget among geeks. Can’t blame them, aside from the features of Android phones, the possibility of coding an app for it is too tempting for any tech geek.
What else could be interesting in 2010?
Maybe more projects that could be used in monitoring our power usage, not just on our respective computers but at home as well. Could be yet another set of devices, or something that will help us set up something at home to do those monitoring activities. One more thing that could be of interest is the development of better desktop environments and window managers. Will there be other projects aside from Moblin that will aim to improve the netbooks users experience? How about a new desktop environment because of the changes in GNOME 3.0? I can’t help but think about the possibility since not everyone will want to switch to KDE 4.3 and so on.
Exciting times for Linux and FOSS? Could be. Or it could be steady road to improvement without much fanfare but something that focuses on what could be stable especially for end users.

Might I add EEEbuntu 4.0 (EB 4.0 as it is tentatively called due to prospective a name change). EB4.0 is to use DEBIAN UNSTABLE instead of Ubuntu, with a rolling release (meaning upgrade only as needed); they hope to support most netbooks. I, myself, am excited to get my hands on it beta should be out by next week or end of January with the 4.0 release for February.
Hope you can add this on your 2010 to look out for list.
