Interesting Use of iPods

I saw the iPod Tours at the Apple Web Site while browsing for something else. The iPod is now being used as a companion through some of the world’s great institutions. The perfect tour guide if you will.

Places such as the SFMOMA, Chateau de Versailles and Miami Metrozoo are using the iPod to create a richer experience for their visitors. You can download podcasts for these places and use them as a guide through their exhibits. Don’t have an iPod? Rent one at these establishments. These podcasts give a vivid description and inside track at these places.

I personally think that this idea is great. I’ve visited museums in the past that have similar services but the iPod just makes it cooler. Plus, I’m not constrained to using their equipment. I can bring my own.

If you work for an establishment and want to use the iPod in a similar fashion, you can download a pdf that will provide info on how to create this tour and teaching environment.
