IBM, Adobe Systems, Symantec and Apple are companies whose applications are notably missing from the list of compatible Apps published by Microsoft (found here).
Microsoft is on the defensive and says the list of applications will continuously grow which might also mean including applications from these companies.
I would understand that almost all of the applications of Microsoft are included in the list; but missing out on applications from the biggest companies is a competitive move against them.
It can be noted that companies that were missed out have products that are in direct competition to that of Microsoft. Some of these include IBM’s Open Client Solution, and Apple’s iTunes music player. Apple may have intentionally made their applications incompatible to Vista so people would instead switch to MAC especially when Vista can be run in MAC (though Microsoft made sure they are limited).
Eventually the number of companies and applications compatible with Windows Vista would compel the biggest software companies to make their products Windows Vista ready.
