On an administrative note – until further notice, I will not be moderating any comments for New Linux User. Quite simply, the spammers have won and I am now presented with over 200 spam comments each morning when I log on to NLU. Sadly, I do not have the time to sort through 200+ comments (there was 583 after last weekend) to determine if there are any legitimate comments in there. Therefore, I deleted them all as soon as I log on.
b5 Media is working on a solution as I am certainly not the only blog in the system that is being absolutely bombarded by spam, but until a solution materializes, it it highly unlikely that any comments left will ever see the light of day.
And this is why spammers will eventually ruin the Internet for everyone. They’ve already made me shut off trackbacks on my personal site and now they’re making me delete all my comments on this blog.

That’s a shame. You need some sort of anti-spam image plugin. That’s what I love about Wordpress, there are tons of anti-spam plugins you can enable which allow you to leave comments unmoderated with confidence.

It really is a bummer. You’re right about the plugins, but what many people don’t realize is that many of them aren’t licensed for commercial use. Therefore, we can’t use many of them. Further, a large portion of them that we’ve tried that *are* licensed for commercial use, conflict with other plugins that we run.
I think we’re trying to strike a deal for Akismet, but it’s not a done deal yet.
