Businesses still cautious over Windows Vista

Businesses are still sounding extremely cautious over their plans to implement Windows Vista at the back end of 2006.

A Merrill Lynch survey of 100 North American CIOs concludes that two-thirds of businesses are delaying decisions involving an upgrade to the Vista operating system.

Only eight percent said they are planning an upgrade in 2007. Twice that figure are contemplating upgrades in 2008, while five percent said they intend to wait until 2009.

News.com reports : “… just over half of those surveyed said they planned to increase their spending on Linux, with the lion’s share (43 percent) favoring Red Hat and 9 percent leaning toward Novell. The remaining 48 percent of those surveyed aren’t planning on stepping up Linux use.”

I work for a major bank in the US. Windows Vista is not even on our radar for 2006… or 2007. It’s possible of course, that things could go on without my knowledge, as I am not so high up the ladder that I am aware of everything, but…. I don’t think it’s going to happen here.
