Reports were buzzing when Microsoft announced about the $30 USD Windows 7 upgrade and now reports are again spreading like wild fire but on the negative side as the $30 USD Windows 7 student is not installing properly, had not been received or have had problems downloading the upgrade software.
Microsoft has already responded to this and have acknowledged the problems surrounding the Windows 7 student edition. Because of this recommendations on helping resolve this issue were written outside Microsoft. The three links below should be able to get you started on the Windows 7 student edition:
1. Upgrade Instructions – this can be downloaded via digital river and contains the step by step instructions on upgrading the operating system. This is just a one page instructions which has 5 steps. The following steps are supposed to be executed:
1. Prepare your pc
2. Download the ISO image file
3. Download and install the Windows 7 USB/Download tool
4. Using the Windows 7 download tool
5. Installing Windows 7 via bootable disc
2. ISO file – this is the file which contains the direct ISO link
3. Bootable DVD/USB Creator – you can use this to create a bootable usb medium
I am not using Windows 7 student and have no plans of using this version since I already have Windows 7 Ultimate edition. In case you are one of those people who have encountered problems on the student edition and have found a way to install or upgrade correctly, please do buzz us through the comments in this post. We and other users would appreciate this.

First off, I want to thank you for posting about this. On my viigo for blackberry I saw this and it pretty much made me go for the upgrade … the $100 price tag was keeping me on the fence. It kind of sounded like you are saying its a separate version like Windows 7: Student. From what I saw its just a student discount based on your email but its the Home Premium version and its possible to get the Business version as well with your school email but I did not check those steps out. I did not burn it to a DVD when installing. I used the downloader that it links you to after you purchase and then after downloading the product I launched it and did a clean install. It restarted a few times but that’s normal and it did have some not responding issue when I was away from the computer but I went through the restart and after updating files it went right into the OS installation. I can’t remember if it required the serial before I restarted but good thing I had it on my phone because you do need it after the restart. Thanks again for the discount heads up.
