13 Most Beautiful Avatars in Second Life

Italian mischief-makers Eva and Franco Mattes are at it again. The two self-described ‘con-artists’, who seek to “use non conventional communication tactics to obtain the largest visibility with the minimal effort”, have thus far perpetuated an artistic hoax, released a computer virus as a work of art, and have now entered the virtual world of Second Life.

Doing absolutely no work aside from plaque-mounting other people’s avatars that have been lovingly crafted through hours of work and eyestrain, the dynamic duo behind 0100101110101101.org have this time taken a page out of Andy Warhol’s film shorts 13 Most Beautiful Women and 13 Most Beautiful Boys. Scanning avatars in Linden Labs’ Second life, the Mattes selected the 13 Most Beautiful Avatars and have created an entire art project that one reviewer stated explores “how self-image manifests itself in an incorporeal universe of multiple identities”.
