Cast of “Glee” to Sing at White House

Well, if it’s good enough for the Obama’s it’s certainly good enough for me! It looks as though the cast of Glee will be making their way over to the White House in the future. They will be there singing for the annual Easter celebration that takes place.

Interestingly enough, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia are said to be in love with the show.

Well, I think it’s a lot better than last year’s Easter White House performer, which was Fergie. You can catch Glee when it returns from its hiatus on April 13th.

They must be extremely honored to be singing in front of the President and his family. I wonder what they’ll sing!

New Year Video: JibJab’s 2009 In Review

I love the annual year in review video put together by JibJab. It’s funny, and it offers some great perspective on what has happened in the past year. And there was plenty of financial shenanigans as well. The good news was that consumers, at least, began to exercise some prudence. While the government continued to spend its way out of recession (something that has been going on for decades, no matter which party is in the White House), consumers realized the folly of digging the debt hole deeper. Of course, only time will tell whether or not they conversion to increased frugality lasts. But it’s an encouraging thought, and we can always hope that the coming decade is one that involves sounder financial decisions all around.

So, enjoy this year in review from JibJab. It’s pretty funny. And it reminds you of just how much really can be crammed into 365 days.

Obama’s Jobs Summit; Jobless Claims Drop

Even with the fact that today the news came in that jobless claims have dropped to a one-year low, the reality is that this is the worst job market in right around 26 years. So, even as the picture starts to improve, things still need to be happening to stimulate job creation. And, as a result, president Barack Obama is convening a jobs summit.

Gathering 130 people together — business people, union leaders, and economists — at the White House is one way he hopes to get input on what can be done to increase the effectiveness of the jobs efforts in the stimulus package passed earlier this year. While there isn’t a whole lot that can be done immediately, there are hopes that measures and policies can be adopted to help move this economy in a direction that leads away from the dreaded “jobless recovery” and helps the employment picture for 2010.

There is also hope that improvement to the business outlook can translate into more jobs and maybe even raises. With Bank of America ready to repay TARP, and with other companies becoming profitable, there are hopes that hiring could start soon. But we will have to see. It may be that companies become too used to the profits they enjoy after cutting the workforce.
