Now on DVD/Blu-ray: “Watchmen”

Watchmen is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and as a two-disc special (actually, there are all types of bundles coming out for this movie so look around!). The film was based on the highly popular (and critically acclaimed) graphic novel so fans of the book and people who just love action/superhero movies flocked to the theaters in droves.

The plot surrounds a group of retired costume heros where, oddly enough, Richard Nixon is still president in 1985. Obviously, this is an alternate reality but it’s definitely no fantasyland. One of the group, the Comedian, is murdered and his former colleague, Rorschach, begins the search for the killer. I heard it was visually stunning but critics and audiences seemed really divided on whether it was any good.

Watchmen Soundtrack

Superhero flick, Watchmen (2009), hit theaters on March 6, 2009 and it took audiences by storm, easily winning the box-office race. If you’ve already seen it, then you probably know that the soundtrack is full of awesome music but if you haven’t, the music might actually inspire you to go out and see the movie.

The music definitely tells the story as main character, Rorschach, investigates the murder of an ex-superhero and discovers more than he bargained for.

There are newer songs like “Desolation Row” by My Chemical Romance but the majority of the soundtrack features songs from yesteryear including “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel and “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix.

Music lovers will be happy to know that, in addition to buying the CD or downloading the album, you can also pick it up on vinyl (yes, vinyl!).

You can also check out Watchmen – Original Motion Picture Score which includes the haunting, instrumental music (composed by Tyler Bates) featured throughout the film.
