Current Poll question is: World Cup 2006: Which country will you be supporting?

Will your heart go out to a newcomer, the Socceroos of Australia? Or are you a die-hard pom supporter so it’s England? Perhaps you haven’t had enough of Brazil‘s fancy footwork, so, you plan to root for the defending champions? Or the host country of the Cup, Germany, catches your fancy? Maybe your loyalties turn to the future home of David Beckham’s football prowess, USA? Then again, Sweden is not a bad bet either. :)

You asking me? Well — I already told you about it. Hahaha. ;)

Anyway, regardless of our differences, I’m sure if you take time to vote, we’d get to find out which country we should look out for in the upcoming 2006 World Cup in Germany.

I reckon we do reach that point in our lives that we take the things we already have for granted, overlook opportunities, and, thus, fail to act on our passions. We probably think that there’s more to life than what has already been presented to us. Only to find out that what we’ve left behind is what we wanted after all.

We can also call it — regret.

It’s not everyday that life offers you a second chance. But I hope that once you do face that opportunity, grab it and make it worthwhile.

Breaking down the seven medals, three bronze, two silver and two gold. Five of which, the three bronze and two silver, she won during the 1992 Barcelona Games and the other two remaining, which were gold medals, were during the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Life after the Olympics, Miller is currently a law school student in Boston. She plans to finish it next year. She also is running her own television show, “Gymnastics USA with Shannon Miller,” that airs on the East Coast. And she has duties as honorary chairman of the Oklahoma City Memorial Kids Marathon.

The other athletes who will be inducted with Miller are two members of the Soviet Union team, Vladimir Artemov and Natalia Kuchinskaya. The former won four gold medals in 1988 Seoul Games and the latter won a gold medal on the balance beam during the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Another is Japan’s Eizo Kenmotsu, who won the all-around at the 1970 World Championships and was member of Japan’s teams that won gold medals during the 1968 Mexico City Games, 1972 Munich Games and 1976 Montreal Games.

Lastly, German Ulrich Spieth will be recognized with an International Order of Merit.

It’s a list of the qualified countries divided into groups which will play during the finals group stage that can somehow be translated to a “how-to-get-rid-of-World-Cup-wannabes” process.

There is a mixture of opinions and emotions about the draw. I reckon particularly in Australia since it’s their first time to qualify for the World Cup in years only to get Brazil in the draw or England who got Sweden, a team they haven’t beaten in 37 years. But you’ll never know. I do believe that anything can happen.

Why is it an achievement? Murdoch and his team of Euan Byers, Warwick Smith, Ewan MacDonald and Peter Smith, are only the fourth Scottish team to hold the coveted title.

First ever was Perth’s Chuck Hay in the 1960s then 30 years after it was Perth’s Danny Smith‘s turn in 1991. And then it was Stranraer‘s Hammy McMillan in 1999.

After their disappointing loss against the US in the bronze medal play-off at the last Winter Olympics in Torino, this win fully compensated that medal loss. And Murdoch, after competing and winning against Canada that’s considered the best in the world, sees it as a mind-blowing experience and to be called, World Champion is a dream come true.
