The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler is being released on DVD tomorrow and I didn’t see it in the theater and I’m not completely sure I’m going to rent it either (I’m definitely not going to buy it).

I’m more of an action fan so romantic comedies tend to annoy me but sometimes they can be fun. The film is intended to portray a battle of the sexes but I’m not sure it accomplishes anything other than being predictable.

Mike (Butler) is a TV star and Abby (Heigl) is the morning show producer. They work together so I guess it would make sense that he would give her some relationship advice. She tries to take his suggestions to heart but they yield unexpected results (two guesses – these two fall in love instead).

If you’re in need of a date movie this week, this is probably a good option but I’m not sure I would go out of my way to see it.

Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Gerard Butler (300) co-star in The Ugly Truth which opens in theaters this Friday. In what’s meant to be a “battle of the sexes” type of movie, a “romantically challenged morning show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love.” As you might predict, it looks like they end up being attracted to each other.

I’m afraid that the only “ugly truth” about this How to Lose a Guy rip-off is that it’s going to be terrible. Early reviews have not been favorable (or even kind) and I think that I’ll have to wait until this comes to DVD. I’m sure viewers who are craving a romantic film in the middle of summer blockbuster season will head to the theater.
