]]> The Day The Earth Stood Still was released on DVD this week and it’s hard for me to explain how I felt about this movie.  It is a remake of the 1951 original “about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.”

The film stars Keanu Reeves (as the alien, Klaatu), Jennifer Connelly (Dr. Helen Benson) and Jaden Smith (Jacob Benson).  Dr. Benson is the stepmother of Jacob, whose father has passed away.  Their relationship is strained and, while I felt very sorry for the kid, I spent half of the movie wishing I could take him to the side and spank him.  His behavior was so unacceptable that it almost detracted from the actual storyline.

I know it’s a remake but it really was very similar to War of the Worlds (2005) but with a far inferior script.  The acting wasn’t particularly great either.
