In 2011, Volkwagen’s Super Bowl commercial with a little boy imitating Darth Vader went viral, capturing the hearts of Star Wars fans and even non-geeks. So this year, Volkswagen decided to stick to the Star Wars theme, but this time used an overweight dog rather than a young boy. The ad was considered one of the best from the 2012 Super Bowl commercials. In case you missed it check out the video below, as well as “The Making Of: The Dog Strikes Back.”

The New 2010 Star Wars AT-AT Toy

Growing up I was (and still am) a huge STAR WARS toy fan. I absolutely love collecting STAR WARS toys and playing with them. I remember one year around Christmas a friend of mine was going to sell me his extremely beat-up AT-AT for $8. His little brother had even taken a permanent marker and colored all over it. But I HAD to have it! Little did I know that my mom had already purchased the limited edition version of the AT-AT toy brand new for me as a Christmas present.

When I finally convinced her I couldn’t wait for this junked out one with missing pieces from my friend, she gave me the $8 and took the brand new one back to the store. Yep, that taught me a valuable lesson that Christmas.

Well, here’s the latest version of the AT-AT toy that was unveiled at the 2010 New York Toy Fair. It’s like a miniature prop from the move it’s so detailed and realistic.

If you are fan of Star Wars and a gamer then you need to start building the skills of the “Force” to help save the Republic. Would you be strong and good enough to win or like some people succumb to the power of the dark side and fail in your conquest for the good of everyone?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is already made available on Steam. Game information are as follows:

5. Different game locations namely: Tatooine and the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk.

For the benefit of those who haven’t heard of Steam, this is the place where you can instantly access your favorites games. Steam feature various games that can be purchased online, downloaded and can be played right away. Benefits of steam include it’s large community of gamers wherein you can find people, meet with friends, connect with people of the same interests, join chat rooms, game matches and tournaments. Also, the game played become more enjoyable as you can chat with your friend during game time. I addition, you would be able to browse various multi-player game servers to join thousands of players online.

Anyways, this is an exciting game and it should keep you glued on your monitors.

I find your lack of activity disturbing

When Darth Vader wants you to wake up, you can rest assured he will find new ways to motivate you to get out of bed.

The Darth Vader Clock Radio includes an alarm clock that will wake you using one of three pre-recorded soundbytes from the voice of Vader himself, James Earl Jones. The time is displayed with glowing red LED numbers embedded in Vader’s eyes, and the radio includes a built-in input jack for your MP3 player.

It even has a snooze button, but manufacturer Sakar warns if you hit the snooze, you do so “at your own risk.”

Maybe he’ll show you the power of the dark side.

Or tell you how unwise you are to lower your defenses.

Or perhaps he’ll say, “Sleep does not concern me. I want you awake, not excuses.”

Okay, I’m out.

He’s using an old Jedi mind trick

Uncle Milton Industries, a manufacturer of science-based toys, is about to unveil a first: a toy that interacts directly with your brain. Available this August for about $120, the Star Wars Force Trainer lets you levitate a ball using only your mind. Seriously!

The toy works by reading the beta waves from your brain with a wireless headband attachment. The main part of the toy features a ping-pong ball in a clear tube and a fan underneath that allows it to float. But there are no buttons to push to activate the fan; it happens when the headband senses changes in your brainwave patterns.

The Star Wars Force Trainer uses technology that doctors use to monitor brainwaves, the same tech used by amputees to send instructions to artificial limbs. Included in the toy is the voice of Yoda, who helps guide you through several increasingly difficult levels of control.

I’m more intrigued by this technology than the Force Trainer itself. The toy strikes me as a novelty to show all your friends — but something that would grow repetitive pretty fast. But the tech, if harnessed with enough imagination, could lead to some true innovations not only in toy-making but in electronics of all kinds.

Happily, this toy is just the beginning. Already, Mattel is manufacturing a similar toy that will be available this Fall. And Uncle Milton is planning an entire line of toys that utilize this brainwave-sensing technology. The company is planning to show off its toys at Comic-Con International in a few weeks, so perhaps we’ll learn more about it then.

E3 ’09: EA press conference highlights

On Monday, EA Games hosted its own press conference here at E3 2009. Here are a few highlights from the event.

EA Sports announces Fight Night Round 4, for the first time allowing you to pit Ali against Tyson, with spectacular-looking results. Check out the big-screen demo:

EA Sports announces and demos Grand Slam Tennis for Wii, complete with a surprise appearance by tennis superstar Pete Sampras.

Brutal Legend designer Tim Schafer takes the stage to unveil several new characters and show off new video featuring star Jack Black. Note: this video is NSFW.

A full level demo for Pandemic’s The Saboteur, which features creative use of color and black & white, and finds you working with the resistance in Nazi-occupied France during WWII.

Last but by far not least, a progress report on the highly-anticipated MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, featuring on-stage Jedi and the world premiere of the game’s cinematic trailer. (If only the prequel trilogy had been more like what the trailer shows!)

R2D2 USB Hub

Last week I showed you the cool little Darth Vader Bust USB Hub. This week I found the R2D2 4 port USB hub that is imported from Europe from Underground Toys. Similar to Lord Vader, he too makes sounds when you plug in a USB peripheral. In fact his head spins too .

Upon reading reviews, the unit does not spin it’s head. Still makes a for a cool little desktop USB hub for the Star Wars fan. This R2 unti stand 6″ high and will run you $27.99 at Target.com . Shop around though, if you want this item you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

Darth Vader USB Hub

I’m all about finding a cool USB hub. Most of the time I’m looking for something small and easily concealable; one I can tuck under the cooling bay of my notebook computer. If I had the room on my desk I would probably buy one of these though. Last week I showed you a miniature R/C R2D2 and this week is a nifty little Darth Vader USB hub.

Kind of Pricey at $44.99 you say? Well considering that you would spend about $10 to $20 on a an average USB port, this one is DARTH FRIGGIN’ VADER! Buy it from Target, plug it in and succumb to the darkside!
