Sony Pictures announced its new Peter Parker — British actor Andrew Garfield. The Red Riding star has won the lead role in the new Spider-Man movie being directed by Marc Webb. Sony will release the film in 3D on July 3, 2012, and production begins in December.
The studio revealed Garfield as its choice at an event in Cancun, Mexico, for international journalists attending a media tour promoting films from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Director Sam Raimi recently talked about Spider-Man 4 and I don’t know whether to be excited or worried. It already has a release date (May 6, 2011) but it doesn’t have a script or a confirmed cast. Honestly, that date is not that far away so I hope they think this through before they release something awful (and, to be honest, Spider-Man 3 was close to awful).

For those of you who missed the event—and who can blame you, since the excitement probably caused your brain to shut down for a few months or risk overloading—Activision called upon gamers to choose the cover art for the upcoming Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Choices included “Spider-Man Whispers ‘Rosebud’” and “Spider-Man Scruffs a Wolverine.”
