We thought something was fishy. That’s why we looked into how rich Soulja Boy is. It turns out, he’s not rich enough to buy a $55 million private jet.

Soulja Boy, who is turning 21 soon, reportedly purchased the private jet as a birthday present to himself. News services around the world picked up the story. Now a Soulja Boy spokesman is retracting the story, even though Soulja Boy himself initially confirmed it.

We shouldn’t have believed it to begin with, especially since Soulja Boy’s latest album sold less than 100,000 copies.

Soulja Boy’s latest album, “The DeAndre Way”, was released last November. That album, despite some big name artists joining him in the booth, has been a huge flop. It currently has sold less than 100,000 copies. “The DeAndre Way” peaked at No. 90 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Want a better way to judge how rich Soulja Boy is? Who better to judge than Forbes magazine. That publication claims that Soulja Boy made $7 million in 2010.

Judging by the success of “The DeAndre Way” and the Forbes report, there’s no way that Soulja Boy has enough money in the bank to purchase that $55 private jet. His album flopped and he didn’t have that much money to begin with. If he’s lucky, he could afford to put 10% down and get a generous payment plan.

The bottom line is that Soulja Boy is rich … but not that rich.

The base price of the G5 jet that Soulja Boy purchased was $35 million. But that wasn’t good enough. Soulja Boy decided to go all Pimp My Jet and spent another $20 million on upgrades. Those upgrades include handcrafted cabinets, multiple liquor bars and some huge flatscreens.

Let’s hope that Soulja Boy keeps cranking out the hits so that he can pay for this monstrosity. It’d be a shame if he became the next MC Hammer.

It looks like the track is off of his upcoming album, “The DeAndre Way.” The album title refers to his real name which is DeAndre Cortez Way.

Honestly, listening to the song and looking at the video, it just seems like a big joke. Is he being serious?! Maybe, it’s just me, but not only is the song stupid, but the video is so low quality.

I’m sure he’s earned enough money off of “Crank That” to come out with something better.
