Sony Stops Manufacturing Cassette Walkmans

Sony Stops Manufacturing Cassette Walkmans

Sony announced today that it will stop manufacturing and selling cassette Walkmans. The final lot was shipped in April and once they are all sold, there will no longer be any new cassette Walkmans.

I’m sure most people didn’t realize that they were still making them. So I’m not sure that this was worth an announcement. The first Walkman was produced back in 1979, so they had a good run. Since that time, over 220 million Walkmans have been sold.

Sony Makes Home 3D Look Cool

Sony Makes Home 3D Look Cool

I’m not sure what it is but I always seem to love Sony products for the most part. Except for the PlayStation, which I’ve always kept at the bottom of my list for preferred home gaming consoles, I’d pick Sony products first just about every time. I’d say the biggest factor of why Sony products seem to always catch my eye is because they always seem to be eye-catching. I would say Sony is the one… More »

Heavy Rain Screenshots

Heavy Rain Screenshots

Let’s just consider this a Christmas Eve present, shall we?

Heavy Rain is one of those games that’s going to show the PS3 to its fullest ability. My huge hope is that it doesn’t end like Indigo Prophecy did because I’m going to be a bit of a Scrooge if that happens to me again.

These screenshots are pretty much awesome and if I needed another excuse to pre-order this game, these shots give me that excuse.

Check ‘em out; there’s 19 in… More »

I Suck at Fat Princess

I Suck at Fat Princess

I’m pretty sure that I’ve written about Fat Princess before but it’s Sunday and I’m just too damn lazy to go looking for the link. And anyway, I’m pretty sure I wrote something about the controversy surrounding Fat Princess and that really doesn’t have anything to do with what I’m writing today.

The point is that I suck at Fat Princes.

I downloaded the demo from the Playstation Network, very excited to finally try my hand at the game.

I selected the “play… More »

Consumer Electronics Makers Recovering

Consumer Electronics Makers Recovering

The consumer electronics industry has been hit especially hard by the recession and slow consumer spending, as electronics are among the first things that many families cut back on when money is tight. However, several consumer electronics companies, including Sony and Panasonic, have posted results that may signal some recovery in the market.

Sony just posted its fourth-consecutive quarterly loss on Friday, a fact that is troublesome on its own. However, the brighter outlook on the global economy and cost-cutting measures… More »

Digital photo frame-slash-printer

Digital photo frame-slash-printer

Have you ever had someone look through the pics on your digital photo frame and they go, “Hey, I’d like a copy of this photo!” Yeah, me neither. But should that day ever come, Sony has got you covered.

Come January 2010, Sony’s DPP-F700 digital photo frame will make it easy to print out 4×6 photos in 45 seconds. It stores up to 2,000 photos on its 1GB of memory, and displays them on a 7″ LCD screen. A nice touch… More »

Sony’s Lithium Ion

Sony’s Lithium Ion

Sony has announced their launching of a new Lithium-on secondary battery which uses a special type of “olivine” lithium iron phosphate for its cathode material. These new materials used can provide high-power and longer battery life performance on a single package. The material “olivine” has a robust crystal structure and has high levels of stability providing continuous performance as Sony explained. This “olivine” is an ideal fit for cathode materials. Aside from longer battery life,… More »

Intel’s universal PC cable: the future?

Intel's universal PC cable: the future?

Intel has taken the wraps off a brand new technology called Light Peak, that it envisions as a replacement for USB, HDMI, Firewire, and every other type of connector and port coming out of your computer. The idea is that future mobile devices could do away with the multitude of ports coming out of their sides, to make way for one or two Light Peak ports that could handle any type of connection you need to make — monitors, external… More »

Asus Plans Cheap, Double-Pane eBook Reader

Asus Plans Cheap, Double-Pane eBook Reader

The market for ebook readers grows daily, thanks to the success of Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s eReader, and now inexpensive tech maker Asus is preparing to enter the market with its own device. Here’s the twist: Asus plans to deliver more bang for the buck — at about half the price of Amazon and Sony’s products.

How they’re going to manage that remains a mystery, but Asus “Eee Reader” is said to have not one but two screens, both with full… More »

Best. Alarm clock. Ever.

Best. Alarm clock. Ever.

If Heaven has an alarm clock, then surely it looks like this. (As we all know, alarm clocks are of-the-Devil and crafted by Satan’s minions in some vile sub-basement of Hell, so of course Heaven can’t possibly have them… but just go with me here.) No matter what your definition of cool, Sony’s ICF-CL75iP has to fit the bill. As long as Sony comes up with a better name for it before release, anyway.

What you’re looking at is an alarm… More »

New PS3 Ads

New PS3 Ads

I love awesome advertising and I love my PS3 so it only stands to reason that I would LOVE Sony’s new ads that came out on the 27th.

The thing that rocks so much about these ads is the humor.

Even if you don’t love the PS3 as much as I do, you still might find yourself laughing at these ads.

There are supposed to be nine different ads to run during the holiday season “each highlighting a different benefit and feature of… More »

Sony one-ups Kindle with new ereader

Sony one-ups Kindle with new ereader

Let’s be blunt: the ebook reader marketplace is lead and controlled by Amazon’s Kindle. But Sony is ready to change that by bringing a true contender to the marketplace. The Reader Daily Edition rounds out Sony’s family of three new ereaders with three major innovations that up the ante significantly.

Earlier this month, Sony announced the Reader Pocket Edition and the Reader Touch Edition. The just-announced Reader Daily Edition is the most tricked-out of the three, with wireless access to Sony’s… More »

Sony’s new Walkman has built-in speakers

Sony's new Walkman has built-in speakers

Sony has just unveiled its new S Series Walkman video/MP3 player, which allows you to ditch the earbuds thanks to its built-in speakers.

Normally, speakers on any device this small would equate to “tinny” sounds. But Sony claims that its speakers are high quality, utilizing “Clear Audio” and “Digital Linear Phase Speaker System” technologies. It also features a high contrast 2.4 inch QVGA LCD touchscreen, smooth playback at 30 frames per second, and an overall design that’s less than half an… More »

Sony announces PS3 Slim

Sony announces PS3 Slim

In September, those who’ve been waiting to take the PlayStation 3 plunge might want to ante up. The PS3 Slim was announced today, a thinner, more compact version of the PS3 (which has been criticized in the past for its behemoth size). The PS3 Slim will have all of the same functions as the original PS3 — including the integrated Blu-ray player — and will retail for just $299. The PS3 Slim is reportedly 33% smaller than the original.

Sony adopts ePub to challenge Amazon Kindle

Sony adopts ePub to challenge Amazon Kindle

Sony is dropping its own proprietary ebook format in favor of the open source ePub format, in a bid to take on Amazon’s dominance of the ebook market. Sounds kind of like the digital music industry trying to keep up with Apple’s iTunes, doesn’t it?

The ePub format was created by a consortium of major publishers, including Random House and HarperCollins. Sony will adopt the ePub format for all of its ebook readers — existing and new. The format is an… More »
