For all the Trekkies out there – set your calendars! Reports have been surfacing that the sequel to the Star Trek movie has an official release date.

The film will be released on June 29, 2012, the weekend before the fourth of July. It’s a pretty great date for it to be released, considering no other film has been schedule for that date. In general, information on the Star Trek sequel has been kept under tight wraps and hardly anything is known about the film, its plot or its cast.

However, it is very likely that most of the cast who were introduced in the previous Star Trek film, would be appearing in the upcoming movie.

I don’t about you guys, buy 2012, seems so far away right about now! It’s going to be great to finally see where they’re going to take the story.

Though it feels like a long time to wait, it’s better that they take their time and make the movie the right way, instead of makin a rushed, crappy film.

Cliffy B. then shows up after the trailer was shown to confirm that the rumors of a sequel are indeed true. The most surprising part? The game is coming out this November. As expected, Gears of War 2 is an Xbox 360 exclusive. Yeah, expect a terrible PC port a year after.

This news bodes well for the legions of Xbox 360 owners who’ve been pining for a big 2008 release. If you think Halo Wars alone is going to save the Microsoft console from coming out third in the race, think again. The caliber of a Gears of War sequel would definitely help the 360’s rather slim 2008 lineup.

Question is: Would Gears 2 be enough to keep the 360 ahead of the PS3?

I’m looking forward to Condemned 2 because the original was awesome. It’s not exactly a “shooter” in a strict sense because getting and using guns isn’t exactly as easy as picking it up like in other FPSes. Condemned was more about the melee and the atmosphere. Its mood was sheer perfection.

What is the sequel like? More of the same, and hopefully even some more. Enjoy the crimson splatters.

Yes, Portal is awesome. Yahtzee loves it. I love it. Everyone loves it. Thus, MTV asks the inevitable question: do you want a sequel?

If you asked a game publisher, they would naturally say yes. If you asked any gamer who knows Portal, they might say yes. If you asked me, I would say no.

Can’t we just leave an excellent game alone? Must we look for a sequel and just end up disappointed that its successors got worse at each outing?

Sure, a sequel may address some of Portal’s flaws. A sequel could also totally destroy it. No, I don’t want a Portal franchise that would be milked like Mario, Sonic, Zelda, or Gordon Freeman.

Here’s a surprise: according to VideoGamesBlogger, a Command & Conquer FPS game is coming to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The game is called Tiberium, and is said to be set 11 years after the end of the third Tiberium war.

A C&C FPS? This game has to be a sequel to Renegade.

Tiberium is said to be a mix between Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter, Battlefield, and Rainbow Six Vegas. If this were the case, the result would probably have vehicles and tactical elements. Would Tiberium be in first-person or third person? I can’t really say. Perhaps a third-person POV is useful if a cover mechanic would be implemented, and the tactical element would be easier to see because of better peripheral vision.

You’re thrust in the role of Ricardo Vega, a formerly-retired GDI field commander. You’ll be leading a Rapid Assault and Intercept Deployment (or R.A.I.D.), but there are no details if you get to fight the NOD. Since this is a C&C game, expect to command units such as: infantry squads, missile infantry squads, a version of the Titan, and Orcas.

Is this news for real? The blog says the January ‘08 issue of Game Informer has this news as its cover story. You can also have a look at the images in a certain EA forum (links found in one of the lower posts).

It’s not exactly new since it’s a sequel, and it was also announced four years ago, but you know what I mean.

There’s another FPS coming to town, and what better venue to show off the latest trailer than the 2007 Leipzig Games Convention in Germany? The game: Operation Flashpoint 2. It’s not exactly new since it’s a sequel, and it was also announced four years ago, but you know what I mean.

If you haven’t heard of the original, then shame on you. The original Operation Flashpoint was a tactical shooter set in the Cold War. Did I mention it had great reviews? The sequel, however, looks like a different beast altogether.

Instead of the Cold War, this installment will take place in modern times. The conflicts are fictional, but bits and pieces are based in real life. The video clip looks nice, but would the game look anything like it?

The short answer seems to be yes. According to a recent GameSpot preview, the renders were produced using in-game models. The article may not have explicitly stated that the video was taken in-game, but its solitary screenshot is presumably taken from the video.

Great news, F.E.A.R. fans! There’s going to be a sequel to your favorite FPS, and you get to name it. According to Monolith, the game’s developer, it will accept submissions from June 4th to June 27th—a mere 23 days. During this time, you’ll have to think of a name that somehow reminds you of the original title, yet not use the same name because of some legal technicality.

The prize is a fanboy’s wet dream: an all-expense paid trip to Monolith to meet the development team and tour the facilities. Yawn. I was hoping of something in the lines of an obscenely-powerful PC that can run their <s>resource-hogging</s> highly-anticipated sequel.
