According to the Hollywood Reporter, Comedy Central has pulled the plug on their mockumentary Reno 911! I have to say that it’s lasted a lot longer than I ever expected. Co-creator/star, Thomas Lennon, announced the cancellation via Twitter since the network hadn’t released an official statement. How classy.

I don’t know if this makes me a jerk (since I recently reviewed the sixth season and found it someone funny) but I’m not crying in my soup over this one. Besides, it’s time for Lennon to move on and cultivate his acting career since I thought he definitely stood out in 17 Again and I Love You, Man.

There’s been no word on what Comedy Central is planning to air during Reno 911!’s preview timeslot.

The show is absolutely ridiculous, politically incorrect, crass and, most of all, funny. You won’t like this if you are easily offended or sensitive to jokes about any of the following subject matter – racism, sexual orientation, drug and alcohol abuse and/or rape. Basically, they make fun of everything.

If you’ve never seen the show (which airs on Comedy Central), the best way to describe it would be a satirical cross between Cops and any of those cop shows (they always seem to have so much personal drama while they solve crimes). It’s meant to be a mockumentary and, mostly, they succeed and I think that’s partly due to the fact that much of their dialogue is improvised.

In the sixth season, you’ll see a murder mystery dinner party gone wrong (it’s like two episodes of the board game Clue brought to life), the deputies take a stroll down memory lane when they transfer VHS evidence tapes to DVD, an encounter with “Stoner Jesus” and much more.
