As those of you who read this blog already know, I'll be going to the Oktoberfest at the end of September for a 20-year reunion of sorts. The strange thing about the Oktoberfest is that it starts in September and, more often than not, the bulk of this famous beer festival does not in fact take place in October.

Far more strange than that is this report from the BBC, reporting on an Oktoberfest in, of all places, the West Bank.... More »
Post from: EveryJoe

As those of you who read this blog already know, I’ll be going to the Oktoberfest at the end of September for a 20-year reunion of sorts. The strange thing about the Oktoberfest is that it starts in September and, more often than not, the bulk of this famous beer festival does not in fact take place in October.

Far more strange than that is this report from the BBC, reporting on an Oktoberfest in, of all places, the West Bank. Now, I wouldn’t have expected any microbreweries at all in the West Bank, but apparently there’s one. The Taybeh Brewing Company, in the town of the same name, claims that theirs is the “only Palestinian beer”. They even have a website.

Taybeh is predominantly Christian, which would explain why they’re ok with beer. With Ramadan taking place in the month of October, however, the brewery’s owner decided to hold his Oktoberfest in September instead. Reports are that the beer was good and the hospitality excellent. That’s really all one can ask, isn’t it?

No, the picture’s not of me, it’s the owner of the Taybeh Brewing Company (from their website)
