The film has an all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Paul Sorvino and Lorraine Bracco. The movie fallows the life of Henry Hill (Liotta), who moves his way up in the… More »

Out on DVD: âGood Hairâ

If you’re looking to watch something informative, interesting and funny, apparently, the film Good Hair might be a good choice for you. The film was produced and narrated by comedian Chris Rock, who also stars in the documentary. The film is a documentary about African American women’s hair, and the struggle to have what is referred to as “good hair.” He did a lot of research and went many places including beauty salons, hair styling conventions, barber shops… More »

New “National Lampoon” Movie Planned

New “National Lampoon” Movie Planned

I enjoyed National Lampoon’s Vacation, European Vacation and I think that Christmas Vacation is my favorite holiday movie of all time but I drew the line there.  Vegas Vacation was terrible so I’m not sure I want to see any more.  Unfortunately, no one cares about my opinion. It’s being reported that a new instalment in the franchise is coming but, instead of focusing on Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) it will instead revolve around the misadventures… More »

On DVD: “The Stepfather”

On DVD: “The Stepfather”

During a time of year when all of these sappy movies are focusing on the romantic side of love, movies like The Stepfather show what life is like when things go terribly wrong.  I don’t care who judges me, I’m renting this movie.  I wanted to see it when it came out in theaters but I wasn’t willing to spend good money on it.  It’s a DVD movie (oh wait – I got a Blu-ray player for Christmas so…).

“Mission: Impossible IV” Coming in 2011

“Mission: Impossible IV” Coming in 2011

Ethan Hunt is alive and kicking.  The character will be brought back to life by Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV which is expected to hit theaters over the Memorial Day weekend in 2011.  Say what you want about Tom Cruise’s religious choices – I still love him as an actor and I’m hoping this newest installment in the franchise is the best yet.

The film is being produced by J.J. Abrams who is on a real hot streak after enjoying… More »

On DVD and Blu-ray: “Couples Retreat”

If you’re looking for a movie to watch this Valentine’s Day but you’re not into the syrupy, overly romantic movies, then you might want to consider Couples Retreat which was released on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday.

The comedy features an all-star cast (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, Faizon Love and Malin Akerman)and aims to look at relationships in a more realistic, if not jaded, way than the traditional lovey-dovey stuff.

In the film, friends head out on… More »

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” on DVD

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” on DVD

It’s a week of romantic movies and this is one that your significant other might enjoy.  The Time Traveler’s Wife is now out on DVD and Blu-ray and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day (if you’re celebrating, of course).

The film stars Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams as star-crossed lovers, of sorts, since he keeps popping in and out of her life since he travels through time.  I have to admit that seeing the previews, there were some moments that kinda creeped… More »

“Dear John” Wins Box Office

“Dear John” Wins Box Office

Somebody had to dethrone Avatar eventually and I guess it’s not surprising that it’s the sappy film, Dear John, despite the fact that it got a palsy 29% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars Amanda Seyfriend and Channing Tatum in an adaptation of the romantic Nicolas Sparks novel, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

In the movie, idealistic college girl, Savannah Curtis (Seyfried), “was on spring break when she first met John Tyree (Tatum) while he was home on… More »

New “Robin Hood” Trailer

New “Robin Hood” Trailer

Robin Hood will hit theaters on May 14, 2010.  I won’t lie to you.  My first thought when I saw the trailer for this film was that the world really doesn’t need another movie about Robin Hood.  I think Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was good enough to buy us another 10-20 years without another remake but I guess Ridley Scott disagrees with me.

The director is collaborating again with Russell Crowe with whom he had incredible success with Gladiator.  Now,… More »

Taylor Lautner Cast as “Stretch Armstrong”

Taylor Lautner Cast as “Stretch Armstrong”

I can see how this would work.  Twilight star, Taylor Lautner, has been cast in the title role of Stretch Armstrong.  The film is slated for a 2012 release and will be in 3D.

Universal Pictures said: “In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power.  We couldn’t be more pleased… More »

Could There Be an “Avatar” Sequel?

Could There Be an “Avatar” Sequel?

James Cameron isn’t ruling out a sequel to his highly popular Avatar.  Are you surprised?  I’m not!  The only reason he didn’t milk Titanic for more was because the boat sink – where can you go from there?

In an interview with CNN, Cameron said: “We might be persuaded. We’ll have to see how much money the movie makes first.”

He also seemed a little surprised by how well the film has done.  “And that’s not some sort of false humility. We… More »

In Theatres: “From Paris With Love”

In Theatres: “From Paris With Love”

From Paris With Love (try to ignore how cheesy it is that they ripped the James Bond From Russia With Love) opens today in theaters and I am not sure how good it’s going to be but if you’re desperate to see an action flick in the middle of Valentine’s season then this might be your best bet.

The film stars a bald John Travolta as special agent Charlie Wax who is described as a loose cannon with a penchant for… More »

“Zombieland” on DVD Tomorrow

“Zombieland” on DVD Tomorrow

Zombieland is being released on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow and I plan to rent it.  I didn’t get to see it in theaters but the reviews were pretty good so I really want to see it.

The film follows the story of cowardly shut-in, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), who must team up with seasoned zombie-slayer, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse.  This is where things get weird… Tallahassee is searching for the last Twinkie on Earth when he… More »

New “Harry Potter” Films in 3D

New “Harry Potter” Films in 3D

Is someone feeling the Avatar pressure?  I’m guessing Warner Bros. doesn’t want to miss out since they are releasing the next two Harry Potter films in 3D.  I wasn’t sure at first but when you consider that it’s going to be part one and part two of Deathly Hallows, it’s going to be pretty flipping amazing.

It’s not going to be too expensive to pull this off either – the studio will have to fork out just $5 million per film… More »
