Of course, the professor discovers that each of these horrifying events provides clues on how to prevent the coming catastrophes so Nick Cage spends the majority of this film running amok, trying to figure out how to save lives. I haven’t seen this movie but I’m thinking of renting it tonight. The reviews weren’t great but they aren’t always right.

Check out the trailer – it looks good but it also looks like Cage tried to be too serious which, unfortunately, has an almost comical effect.

Knowing stars Nicolas Cage (who looks really strange to me from all that very obvious plastic surgery) as a teacher whose life is changed forever when he opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son’s elementary school.

image: Escape Artists

Incredibly, it contains a code (which, of course, Cage is able to crack) that predicts “some chilling predictions — some that have already occurred and others that are about to — that lead him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold.”

It feels a little like someone decided to mix together the plots, special effects and camera work from I,Robot (2004), The Happening (2008) and The Da Vinci Code (2006) and I’m not sure it’s a good thing. On the one hand, I am intrigued by the storyline but, at the same time, Nicolas Cage looks creepier than anything lurking out in the woods or under your bed.

Plus, the trailer (watch it below) contains cheesy lines like “are we gonna die?” and “don’t let him watch the news” (Cage’s character is talking about his son) but the movie is called “knowing.” It would probably be best if you let the kid in on the secret but that’s just my opinion.

Still, Roger Ebert gave this movie 4 Stars so that’s gotta be worth something. Watch the trailer and decide for yourself:
