Kings of Leon Split From Columbia

After making it big in the music industry with their album, Only by the Night, it seems like rock group, Kings of Leon are ready to move on. It has been recently reported that the band will be leaving Columbia Records.

So, who’s picking them up? Well, it looks as though Warner Brothers is pretty interested in signing them.

An insider told The Sun, “Kings of Leon are one of the few bands on the planet who have enough heft to negotiate such a favorable deal. It is virtually unheard of but it shows how keen Warner Brothers were (sic) to have them on their books.”

They have to abide by some key rules, though. They made a deal that they would take care of half the recording costs, so that in return, they’d be given a bigger share of profits and more control over spending.

Kings of Leon “Live at the O2 London”

The Kings of Leon burst on the scene with their songs “Sex on Fire” (did you know that they actually wrote that song about STDs?) and “Use Somebody.” Since then, they seem to be popping up everywhere and some artists have even covered their music on their own albums.

The Live at the O2 London, England DVD has been released and showcases their live performances at the venue. Here is the track listing:

Kings of Leon “Use Somebody”

The Kings of Leon have released another track from their Only By The Night album (which Justin Timberlake recently revealed he listens to all the time on his iPod) to follow up on the success of “Sex on Fire.”

The song was supposedly inspired by a fight the band had when they were touring in 2007 in Glasgow. Doesn’t it remind you of old-school Bruce Springsteen or something? At the same time, I hear a little of The Killers in the guitar chords too. It’s a good song but I don’t know if it’s as good as “Sex on Fire.” Still, I have to confess that I like this band a lot more than sometimes want to admit.

They performed the song on March 14, 2009 as part of the relief “Sound Relief” benefit concert in Melbourne, Australia. It really is a great song choice for that type of event. Proceeds went towards helping the survivors of the Victorian bushfire. Here’s a video of the performance:

What’s On Justin Timberlake’s iPod?

Have you ever wondered what celebrities listen to on their iPods? I saw an article on MTV.com where Justin Timberlake shared what he likes to listen to. “I mean, I listen to everything,” he said. “I’ve been going back and forth between Kings of Leon’s latest album and the Black Keys. I really love their Attack and Release. I thought that was a really great record.”

“And of course Radiohead,” he continued. “It’s a constant. I enjoy In Rainbows in the morning. You throw it on in the iPod dock and get ready to leave the house and go on about your day. That album seems to put me in a pretty decent mood.”

Interesting! I haven’t heard any other songs from Kings of Leon’s album Only by the Night except for “Sex on Fire” so maybe I will give that a listen. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we have a mutual love for Radiohead. It’s rare that I get on the treadmill and fail to listen to at least one of their songs. It’s probably a strange choice for exercising but I really love them.
