Don’t get me wrong, I love Keanu Reeves, but this could be a very gritty role which will require him to  demonstrate what it is like to develop a split personality.  Further, the script is being penned by Justin Haythe who brought to life the magnificent, poignant and painful Revolutionary Road and I get the feeling he’s going to want more from Keanu.

I really liked Bram Stoker’s Dracula but I think that Keanu’s lack of acting chops was distracting at times.  I wasn’t overly impressed with his performance in The Day The Earth Stood Still either.  I just find that his happy-go-lucky, brooding and emotionless expressions kind of blend in to each other.  Do you know what I mean?  Maybe the issue is just that I prefer him in action films like Speed and the Matrix trilogy.

In the end, we’ll just have to see how it all turns out.  It could end up being great.  I do like Keanu and I see a lot of potential for where the storyline could go, especially with Haythe at the helm.

The film stars Keanu Reeves (as the alien, Klaatu), Jennifer Connelly (Dr. Helen Benson) and Jaden Smith (Jacob Benson).  Dr. Benson is the stepmother of Jacob, whose father has passed away.  Their relationship is strained and, while I felt very sorry for the kid, I spent half of the movie wishing I could take him to the side and spank him.  His behavior was so unacceptable that it almost detracted from the actual storyline.

I know it’s a remake but it really was very similar to War of the Worlds (2005) but with a far inferior script.  The acting wasn’t particularly great either.
