On DVD and Blu-ray: “Couples Retreat”

If you’re looking for a movie to watch this Valentine’s Day but you’re not into the syrupy, overly romantic movies, then you might want to consider Couples Retreat which was released on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday.

Universal Pictures

The comedy features an all-star cast (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, Faizon Love and Malin Akerman)and aims to look at relationships in a more realistic, if not jaded, way than the traditional lovey-dovey stuff.

In the film, friends head out on vacation together hoping to enjoy paradise with a group-rate. There’s a huge price to pay, though, for this discount because they discover that they are required to engage in couple’s therapy. Prepare to laugh!

Couples Retreat hits theaters today and I think it’s got the potential to be very funny. As the name suggests, the movie is about four Midwestern couples who travel to a tropical island resort but are stunned to learn that they must participate in the couples’ therapy sessions.

While there is one pair in the group who want to work on their marriage, the other three just want to have some fun in the sun but they quickly realize that their group-rate vacation is going to be a lot more costly than they expected. Of course, I’m sure almost all couples who see this movie will be able to relate to the characters on some level so it should be interesting to see what issues come up in therapy!

The cast is very strong and includes Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell all of whom have a great track record with these types of movies. Check out the trailer:
