Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event is barely a few days away. There’s talk of new iPods (leaked photo of the new iPod nano), iTunes 8 and new iPhone software.
Truth be told, for the past Apple events I have been underwhelmed. Will this event wow me? Chances are no. Why? Because as much as I’d like to see new iPods, they’ve been updated a lot more than the MacBook Pros. That’s something I’d like to see more than new iPods.
I’ve seen the leaked… More »
Let me preface that this is pure speculation. I haven’t read, yet, that this is actually true. BUT…
Apple just released a new decoder that is visually lossless and provides uncompressed HD quality at SD data rates. This means HD quality in a smaller file size, which has been one of the biggest obstacles listed for why there isn’t HD content on the iTunes store today.
Of course, Apple isn’t saying anything about this being a possibility, but smaller file sizes with… More »
According to this story from Apple Insider, the US Military is experimenting with iPods as a form of a translator. The iPod provides translation for soldiers and Iraqi citizens.
The iPod is less threatening and because it’s so universal already, some Iraqis are also familiar with it already. It has bridged the cultural divide.
The software running the translation is Vcommunicator Mobile from Vcom 3D.
The iPod remains almost stock with just some adjustments to make it more dust proof. Other than… More »

Lately my Hard Drive has been getting kind of full. This has made things run a little slower than I’d like (especially PhotoShop), but it also limited my ability to import more CD’s from my wife’s collection into iTunes or import as many pictures as we’ve been taking of the new baby. So I decided to move my iTunes and iPhoto libraries to my external Hard Drive.
iTunes was fairly easy. You change the iTunes Music Folder location under the Advanced… More »
Yep, that’s how much songs have been sold through iTunes. It’s changed the way we buy and listen to music. At least I know it has for me. This is according to a recent report at MarketWatch.
Just the other day I found myself the happy recipient of several iTunes gift cards from my dad. I asked him to get it on his recent trip to San Francisco. iTunes gift cards aren’t readily available here in Manila so I asked him… More »
HBO and Apple have teamed up to bring your favorite HBO shows on iTunes. Shows like “Sex In The City”, “The Sporanos”, “Rome” and “Deadwood” will be made available via the iTunes Music Store.

I don’t normally plug music, movies or books here in TAM, however I’ll make an exception for this case. For those of you who aren’t familiar with “The Last Lecture”, this was a talk given by Prof. Randy Pausch of the Carnegie Melon University.
It’s been a tradition for the school’s professors to give a hypothetical last lecture. In Prof. Pausch’s case it wasn’t hypothetical. He has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and was only given a few months to… More »
Facebook wasn’t really that big before here in Manila, until recently. So it’s only been a few months since I’ve been a Facebook user. However in that few months that I’ve been using Facebook, I’ve grown to like it a lot.
Facebook just announced that it’s partnering with Apple in selling music via iTunes. Facebook will allow artists to create their profiles, put links to their music there. A buy now button will bring Facebook users to iTunes and allow… More »
First it was Linkin Park who performed a 6 song set in a private gig in Apple’s flagship SoHo store. Then Sunday night saw Maroon 5 performing a one hour set at the same store. Both of these shows were recorded and is reported to be released exclusively on iTunes.
It says so in this AppleInsider news item as well as on the Maroon 5 web site.
Maroon 5 is coming here to Manila. I would like to watch their… More »
I was exchanging emails with my cousin. We were talking about the MacBook Air and he expressed his feelings towards it. At the end of the email he mentioned iTunes Movie Rentals and he said, “who needs hd-dvd/blu-ray when you can download HD content.”
This got me thinking, will iTunes Movie Rentals finally change the way we watch movies? I know there’s Netflix and other rental services out there but none of them have the same popularity as the iTunes Store…. More »

Reading through an article in Valleywag entitled “Like it or not, Apple wants to save your ears” it made me think has listening all that time to my iPod actually affected my hearing? I thought about that coz my dad told me the other day that I watch TV too loud.
The article is saying that Apple has a patent on technology that will automatically lower the volume depending on how long you’ve been listening to loud music. It will then… More »
Jeremy Horwitz, Editor-in-Chief of iLounge wrote an open letter to NBC. The subject? Why NBC decided to pull out of iTunes and what its implications are.
I’ve read his letter and I agree with him wholeheartedly. NBC is getting greedy by wanting to charge more for its TV shows which essentially are free. You can watch them on free TV, TiVo it or record it on your VCR. In fact, the shows are paid for by advertisers. NBC should be sharing… More »
My iTunes Movie Rentals Experience
Finally I was able to score some credits for my iTunes account. I had 2 cents last week and through some kind friends, I was able to ask them to buy some iTunes Pre-paid cards for me to top of my account. After redeeming my iTunes cards and with $40 ($25 + $15) in my account, I then proceeded to scour the catalog of movies to rent from iTunes.
My dad’s boss was in town for awhile and while having dinner… More »
