The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards are almost upon us and we’ve got a lot to look forward to. There are great performers and presenters scheduled and the competition is fierce. If that weren’t enough to entice you to watch, then maybe this next bit of news is.

According to reports, two of Michael Jackson’s children are scheduled to be accepting some awards for the Late King of Pop. They will be accepting some Lifetime Achievement awards for their father, who passed away over the summer from cardiac arrest.

Paris and Prince Michael Jr. are who will be doing the honors. His children were last seen in July of 2009 at his memorial service.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on January 31st in Los Angeles, California.

If you are going to be watching the Grammy Awards this Sunday night, look for something a little different in the Lincoln commercials.

Lincoln and its creative agency (Y&R Team Detroit) hooked up with DJ and Grammy-nominated music producer, Gary Calamar to create “Project Rising Stars: The Lincoln Music Video Challenge.”

The team partnered with Filmaka, an online community where filmmakers and other artists can create their own original content. The “Project Rising Stars” music-based video competition encouraged hopeful writers and directors to develop their own creative videos featuring the all-new 2009 Lincoln MKS.

Filmaka cleared the rights to 10 songs from of today’s hottest stars to be used in the competition. Writers and directors were required to submit a 2-5 page pitch telling the story of what they would like to do with the video. If the pitches were selected, then the candidates were given $7,500 to produce and direct their video.

The entries were so well received that Lincoln decided to air five 30-second trailers of the top video submissions during the Grammy Awards, rather than their tradition ads.

Following the Grammys, you will be able to watch the five winning videos along with others in their entirety at cbs.com/lincoln. Viewers also can learn more about the musical artists and filmmakers at filmaka.com/lincoln.

It’s great to see long-standing companies such as Lincoln (Ford) embracing the online generation. This type of campaign and competition should help them introduce a broader, younger audience to their brand. All Ford sales were down last year but the Lincoln division suffered the least downturn. Their new vehicle, the MKS, had over 8,500 pre-orders before it went on sale last June.
